Meenakshi's Mandalas

Hand-painted, dot by dot, by the mother who started Little Angels.

At 64, Meenakshi Dayama discovered she could paint. On round wooden boards, with the patience that once went into baby sweaters, she paints mandalas — the kind of pattern you can look at for a long time and feel calmer for it. Her grandson Parth, four, paints beside her and is her most enthusiastic salesman.

She has decided to sell them, on one condition: what they earn goes to a cause she chooses. In her words, "charity with money is easy — it only counts when you put in your time."

For a baby's room

A newborn spends most of the first months looking at whatever is near the cot. We think a calm, hand-made pattern on the wall is a better thing to look at than most of what is sold for nurseries — and it is the one thing in the room that was made by a grandmother.
